Blankets for Animal Shelters

Kids love helping animals! Each summer, we host an event that benefits local animal shelters. We ask participants to bring a yard of no-pill fleece, and we teach the kids how to create blankets for the animals. We start by placing two layers of fleece together and then cutting strips along all four sides.

The best part of making these blankets is getting to work together as a team with friends - new and old! We tie the fringe all the way around the blanket and then pull all of the knots to tighten it up!

In the end, we’ve created something that helps our animal friends - and had fun with our own friends!

Another fun way we help local animal shelters is by making tie-toys from old t-shirts! We cut the donated shirts into strips and then braid them in bundles to give the pups a great toy.
