Lunches for Roof Above
Roof Above is a Charlotte-based nonprofit organization with the mission “to unite the community to end homelessness, one life at a time”. One aspect of their vision that everyone has the “safety, stability, and dignity of home” is to provide a daily lunch for those in need. To help with this mission, the Kindness Confetti Crew pulls together each summer to make 100 lunches for Roof Above.
First, we gather donations of peanut butter, jelly, bread, chips, fruit cups, cookies, water bottles, and more. As these items are being donated, the Kindness Confetti Crew spends a meeting decorating the lunch bags with bright drawings and inspirational quotes to encourage our neighbors who eat these lunches.
We often hear that the decorated bags are loved and treasured by the people who receive them. They keep their decorated bag as a reminder that brighter days are coming.
We spend another KCC meeting making lunches. The kids form an assembly line, making and bagging peanut butter and jelly sandwiches - 2 for each lunch bag. It’s amazing how much fun making sandwiches can be when you put a group of kids (of all ages!!!) together.
After the sandwiches are prepared, everyone takes a bag and fills it with the other items… chips, a fruit cup, cookies, utensils/napkins, and a water bottle and juice box.
Once the bagged lunches are ready, they are delivered to Roof Above in Charlotte.
