Colorful Crayons & Cards

Back in May, we reached out to our community and asked them to share any used or broken crayons they may have sitting around unused. In just a few weeks we collected THOUSANDS of crayons from families, churches, schools, and after school programs.

On Monday, June 29, we had 40 friends join us to help sort those crayons for an amazing nonprofit called The Crayon Initiative. These amazing kids from age 1 to 18 sorted (and sorted and sorted) crayons into 10 different color groups. Now, it's time to send the crayons to be recycled! The Crayon Initiative will melt them down and make new triangular crayons that won't roll. Sound odd? Perhaps -- until you realize they will send them to children's hospitals. These awesome crayons won't roll off of the kids' hospital trays! What a cool way for kids to help other kids!!

We also made encouraging cards that will be placed in the bagged lunches we pack for the Roof Above Shelter next week. It was such fun to see both kids and adults working together to provide encouragement for those in our community who need it. Thank you to everyone who donated crayons and came to help. We couldn't do it without you!!
